Residents of Darlington, County Durham, are proud of the towns status as the site of the world's first commercial railway, George Stephensons Stockton & Darlington railway, which opened in 1825. The "Darlington Experiment", as it was known at the time, helped change the world.

Rather less likely to have such an outcome is the "Darlington Experiment" of 2009; a cringe-inducing attempt to boost the towns profile with a "cool" website.

The Experiement - expensively devised for a regeneration body called the Darlington Partnership, part funded by the Labour council - offers young people the chance to upload photos, music and video clips extolling the virtues of their home town. In an attempt to get down wiv da yoof, the site was given its own terminology. Users were known to be "choochers" and would "chooch" their favourite clips on the web.

Alas, no one checked whether the happening new term was already in use. A simple google search reveals one definition "Chooching - to masturbate while crying". A minority pastime, perhaps, but there you are.

An alternative moronic neologism - "dxting" - was introduced in time for the websites launch. But nobody thought to tell the printers, who were about to put the councils mag - The Town Crier - to bed. So bemused residents at 40000 homes were soon reading all about the choochin' phenom.

The websites hit rate has been low. Youtube meanwhile continues to be loaded with clips of the "real" Darlo; teens happy-slapping in parks and vomiting outside nightclubs.
That's a smashing blouse you've got on

pretty sad. It's the manifestation of generations of inbreeding of council estate fodder who have it engrained that the country owes them a living, hence the dole is their born right.

And what do you do with those free endless ours day after day?
