The day started off cloudy with light snow falling but started to clear up and it turned into a very fine day.

After a few trips south into Gunma, I decided to try a local - Maiko.

Good snow, fine views. I really like Maiko.

It is excellent snow conditions, especially in the nagamine basin. One of my fav. places for snowboarding.

Yes often very fine snow over at the bowl.
A bit heavy today though still good.
A bit icy later on over at the Dolphin course @ Korakuen.

And a fine place to be on a fine day with a camera too. Very photogenic.

prob because too deep for carver skis. Getting stuck and swimming out is not fun.

I think this shot is incredible muikabochi

It TOTALLY does not look like Maiko, I seriously can't remember the scale looking like that. How did you get that looking so grand?

it's a terrific shot.

Stand at a distance and zoom with focus on infinity perhaps.

Ta. I like that one too joshnii it surprised me how dramatic it came out too. Doesn't really look like Maiko does it!

It was taken from pretty much the same spot as the one below, close to the top of the pair lift. Maybe a bit more to the right. Fair bit of zoom of course

big-will, about that lift. I don't think I have ever seen it move. It's a dead lift I think.

Tubby to answer your question - no!
Long time ago a lift was planned for that area that would have linked up Maiko with Iwappara which are actually very close at the top there, probably no more than 100m.

Though as Rob said there is usually lots of untouched powder to be found at Maiko which often surprises.

Doesn't look like there are ropes there.
Perhaps it's just a case of needing to get back to the lift??
Looks great though. I'd be in there.

There's no ropes you can see there's some trails going off the mside of the main "course" but no-one seems to venture much out. At that bottom part though there's not much gradient.
But if you want lots of untouched in this area I'd say Maiko was best, followed by Hakkaisan.
