Ski-
I hear you about sharing with kids when you are not there with kids yourself! Papa and I took a couples trip to Thredbo 2 yrs ago and sat in the Qantas lounge talking about how fabulous it was to have the opportunity to leave our teenagers (who were giving us headaches at the time) at home and just be grown ups. Then we got on the plane. We were sat EXACTLY in the middle of two MASSIVE school groups, who were throwing food and kicking each others chairs etc.
We laughed. As for us, we are self contained, so people don't have to bring kids just coz there is a sled
Metabo - Pets is something I read on the other thread. I never think about taking my dogs, they don't travel well. It is not something that could happen at Thredbo I don't think as it is in the National Park and pets are not allowed in Aussie national parks. It is an interesting point though ... time for me to do some googling!
BoC - that would be 3,017km as the crow flies or 3,719 driven kilometers!!
However it is the easiest resort to access for us. There is one direct flight to Canberra per day, but it leaves in the afternoon, so you can do you a days work on a Friday, knock off at 2pm and head straight to the airport (Papa starts about 4 or 5 am anyway - so that's a full days work). And 2.5 hrs drive from the airport to the accommodation - however we normally overnight it in a hotel in Canberra and hit the road about 7 or 8am.
After fulfilling commitments made for this year, we hope to be there for the peak season, so you might have to content yourself with crashing on a sofa bed
Stemik - I like those suggestions. I had not thought of bathrobes. A welcome pack is a great idea, or at least a 'file' of information.

I just thought of a new one this morning. Coffee machine! A nice compact one, but god I love a decent coffee.

Get some cherry blossom viewing in then hey Mamabear?
I stayed somewhere in the UK last summer. Their website promisd full wifi coverage. Get there, any signal? Not a sausage. And I really needed it. Put me in another room, there was a signal but it was very week. Not good enough. They ended up having to put me in the posh suite room.
Lesson should be - don't fib!!
And have full coverage!
Or if you can't have a really lovely expensive suite ready for people who get pissed at you for failing the above two!

Bear Lodge!

It is just an apartment people, not an apartment block - don't get too excited!
And yes...I hope to see some Cherry Blossoms AND some snow - am I a bit greedy?

for self contained apartments - for me - space per person, proximity to nearest ski lift, is there any food shop around.

Clean, comfortable furniture for after-board lounging, nice area to cook (don't want to eat out every night!), appropriate pricing! (I prefer the "you get what you pay for philosophy!").
A MUST for me is a coffee maker! (that hopefully comes with a grinder coz I loves me fresh beans!)

oh I hear you about the coffee BM!
We have a commercial grinder and coffee machine at home - not enough bench space to to justify that in the apartment, but I shall have to come up with some solution - fresh coffee is an awesome way to start your ski engines!
I don't think I will get one of those one button jobs, because I like being able to use the milk frother to make hot chocolates for the kids (or with a splash of rum for the adults upon occasion!).

Perhaps we should change the title of this thread to "How Mamabear can improve her apartment."

Maybe....
well it is helping me out.
I know what I want, but bouncing idea's with others who regularly stay in ski area's gives an better perspective. I started the thread because Papa and I seemed to see different things as important .. and I wondered how many other variations of "essential" were out there.
I am sure the collection of information will be more easily found by others in future under the current heading though
So far I think we have established:
A ski tuning bench.
A place for ski's/boards.
Decent kitchen stuff including a coffee machine.
Nice linens, towels and bathrobes (coathangers for me).
Selection/variety of pillows.
Comfortable and clean furniture.
Internet access - information - how to access information.
Extra's: books, games, TV, video games, kids sled.
Heating/cooling options including windows that open.
Bath.

MB, have you ever seen a coffee marker that has the grinder built into it? I bought one last year here in Japan and it is wonderful! I think you'd really enjoy having one of those as it is about the size of a regular maker.

MB, 2 years ago, we rented Pilot 1 in woodridge - fantastic apartment, absolutely loved it.
18 months ago, it was sold, and the new owners have upgraded all the linen etc to the very best available, and thrown in a big spa - and increased the price by about $2000 per week.
i understand their plan is to use it themselves most of the time, but to fit into thredbo resort plans, they will rent it out - to those willing to cough up
