I was in Myoko yesterday. Not sure why, but I decided to check out Suginohara - the one 'on the left' as you look at the mountain.

http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resort_map.php?resortNo=27

Myoko is a very beautiful mountain. But I found out that you don't actually see much of it when you are on it -- it looks prettier from a distance.

Even though I have been in Niigata a fair while, I don't know Myoko that well and it was my first time at Suginohara. Snow was very good and there's a lot of long long courses at the resort - lots of 'crusing' to be had. Also lots of nice trees to play in as well.

First impression is that I prefer the Yuzawa/Minamiuonuma area to Myoko as there seems to be more on offer in terms of choice and variation. I will have to go back and try the other places out for a better formed opinion.

So here are some photos.

The Myoko mountain as seen from Tangram Ski Circus. Resorts seen from left to right on the main mountain.....

Suginohara > Ikenotaira > Akakura

Looking towards Madarao and beyond that Shiga Kogen:

This is the view looking behind Myoko from the top of the top lift. And very nice it is too.

Great pics! Even though Myoko is one of my favorite places to go I didn't make it up there last year. Really hoping to go back for at least a day this season.

I must admit, I was somehow disappointed. Was expecting to like it more. Like I said, I need more time there probably.

Yeah, you should definitely check out Akakura Kanko / Onsen. Suginohara is a good after a big dump but can be a little boring. Also, I think you enjoy views of other mountains. The only way to really do that is by going backcountry there.

Great pics, I went there last year, I quite enjoyed it especially at the top it was ungroomed and bumpy, which made it quite challenging and fun, quite different from the usual groomed courses.
The scenary was not as good as it was snowing all day while I was there.
Snow glorious snow! I have snow time to waste I'm off to play in the snow!

Fine photos.

How did you get the mountain shots from Tangram muika?

I wanted to get the shots of Myoko from high up and so actually bought a one-lift ticket to get up there. Glad I did, nice views up there. Actually Tangram seemed fairly decent might go back there and ski it with Madarao one time.

Personal observation, but I always feel that the skies are clearer (on a 'clear day') in Minamiuonuma region than Myoko. Don't know why but there almost always seems to be that hazy look from Myoko.

It was only 400 yen (I think?), so hardly a big deal.
And I wanted that view, so had to be done! friend

Whats the deal with Madarao / Tangram? Are they on the same ticket and well connected?

They are connected.

You can either get a Madarao only or Tangram only ticket, or a joint one.
