Good god, this is the raddest development (well, de-evolvement) in snowboarding ever.
If you haven't heard, a couple of guys in the rockies got tired if digging themselves out whrn they fell in the powder, so they developed a way of riding without bingings. You stand on a huge stomp pad, and hold on to a bungee cord attached from the from inserts to the rear. You hold on and surf the snow.
I tried this in Flute bowl in Whistler (on the easiest grade) and am in love. It will kick your ass and soke your cigarettes.
Has anyone else here tried it?

Isn't this the same as standing on a toboggan and holding onto the yellow rope on the front?
Did it lots as a kid

"The Snowboarding community has faced a terrible tragedy early this year with the loss of Greg Todds."
Ah, another taste of that total lack of any sense of irony or perspective (or literacy) that makes me chuckle so much about the Snowboarding community.
They got the name wrong too. I think they meant 'no bindinging'. I reckon riding in powder so you don't fall over all the time is a workable answer to the problem.
But it may be fun.

If you ever met Greg you know that riding pow wasn't really a problem for him. Thats probably why he wanted a new challenge with no bindings. Seriously, i loved it. It was the most amazing sensation i've has riding powder since my first time. And hey, if you want to bypass 'the man' when you ride, make your own board, or get a used one, attach some stomp pads and some rope and hit the backcountry. Its the cheapest (and maybe the funnest) way to ride. Its difficult enough where a melloy slope is challenging, but not so gnarly that you are risking dislocations or severe injuries. It is also increadibly soulful.
As for the literacy comment, like c'mon dude. They're SNOWBOARDERS. Its to be expected

What appealed to me about snowboarding rather than skiing is that you don't have to be clutching something in your hands when you do it.
I've done mountainboarding with a handheld brake and it's not the same as just winging it.
Doncha think?

I agree about having the hands free thing, but i have been thinking about ways to ride without bingings for years, and this seems like the simplest and most efficient way. Aesthetically, it doesn't look as bad as skiing either. Where you grab the cord is where basically where your hand would be anyways. And because there is no leash (and i'm not sure i would want it attached to my leg anyways), there needs to be something. The point is though, after 16 seasons of doing it with bindings, the sensation of doing it without was unreal.
