Lets try this again. Now we don't have to scroll through the other topic to find avalanche information. Lets Topic!!!

On the Now page, sometimes they are posting info
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/daily/shownow.php?town=Hakuba%20Now%21

From this week.

Avalanche Advisory
With the huge amounts of snow and wind this past week Avalanche Hazard is high in the alpine bowls above tree line. Bellow tree line the hazard is moderate yet caution needs to be taken in open convex terrain. Be careful in steep unsupported terrain over 30 degrees.

There are multiple slab avalanches that can be seen in the Hakuba mountains that were of a very large size (size 3 ~ size 4). Some close to 2 metres deep, 500 metres in width and 1 km in length. In other words HUGE. Small sluffs can be seen in steep terrain below tree line and there is increased chance of small slab avalanches on southern aspects with increased solar radiation and increased temperatures.

Have fun, Play safe. Always wear a beacon, carry rescue gear and know how to use it just in case. Ride one at a time with other members of your crew watching from safe areas and when possible stay out of avalanche terrain.

I'm looking forward to this weekend.
Hope the lack of big snow will allow the pack to settle a little more.

Let's Powder!!

The above is a link to a report of a snowpit dug in the vicinity of the Happo ridge near an avalanche that ripped to the ground (I think).
Note the depth hoar that was found at the bottom of the snowpack
and the final comment that the temperature gadient is still large; favoring the continuing formation of depth hoar.
Be very careful in the back country this season.

Thanks for posting john-g, and pointing out to us that until now unregistered users could post on this new forum section - we've changed that now to be like the rest of the forums, ie only registered users can post. Thanks.

Been following the Hakuba avie advisories the past few days, just wanted to say it is the single most useful thing I've gotten from this website by far. Big thanks to the Evergreen boys for this.

If anyone knows of similar reports for other areas, would be fantastic to share the links. Japanese is ok also. There is some pit info on nadare.gr.jp but the postings are still pretty few..

They were quite flustered as to why they were being attacked. Thanks Montoya Monty has more than likely read this and will pass the message on to dave.

Yes they were rather surprised (as were we), but we assured them that many people do very much appreciate what is being written and the effort that is put into it.

Am trying to learn a little more about avalanche risk. Am coming up to Hakuba this weekend, and was wondering how far up the mountain the rain went before the cold and snow returned. If it went high up will this mean there`ll be a serious weak layer under all this week`s predicted snow?
