Bali was a fantastic holiday. Memorable, but only 5 pics. Apart from the chilling out around the pool, and a spot of shopping in Kuta, a couple of days stand out.

We were staying in Sanur. I snorkelled out to the reef and back, and the lagoon Looked in pretty fair shape, with plenty of seagrass. Lots of coral debris with some live patches. A couple of days later I hired a fisherman to take me past the reef, and he dropped me over a lovely spot with excellent coral, and abundant fish. I was well chuffed with that.

Another day we hired a motorbike, and and rode out to the eastern tip of the Island. East of Candidasa was a visual treat. It was great being on a bike, because you get a much greater sense of being in the environment. You can smell the smells and feel the air change from hot to warm as you pass from sun to shade.

Best of all, soubriquette enjoyed it enough to be planning a motorbike circumnavigation next trip. She suffers an inexplicable inability to read my mind, and therefore left my daypack with the camera at the hotel. No motorbike photos. Next time then.

All in all, a great trip, and we found plenty of new stuff.

Morning. Still and clear, with a hard overnight frost.

Morning. Mild this morning. Clouds moving in from the west and a red sky. We'll have rain by mid-day. Gotta get the outside work finished.

When do you Hokkaido people have to finish preparing for winter? I'll be finished today, but got caught by last week's snow.

We've had snow on the ground continously now since mid Nov. Most locals get their prep done by end of Oct or early Nov.

Building shelters to protect everything against a 2-3m blanket of snow.

but why do you have to build it. You just need to use the same boards from last year.

"Put up the same shit from last year, and the same before then and the same before then and the same before then"

And then perhaps this year, we'll have a barbecue pit.

I've built protection for the aircon units, vents, windows, gas etc etc. That is either permanent or just slots into place.

I've had to erect shelter for eight trees using 4m lengths of timber. Last years system was outgrown and needed replacement.

Good fall of snow overnight and currently it's fairly clear so fresh turns in the sun for those on the mountain this morning. Snow coming back in later today and plenty more over the next couple of days.
