I was thinking about my previous post today in work, thinking how I wouldn't stand up and sing in a bar, ironically while I was belting out those classics such as "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and the ever inspiring "Hello Song" to a bunch of 2nd grade Elementary students who were simply looking on bemused!!! lol

I've had both good and bad karaoke experiences - it really can go either way. A big gamble. ha ha

OK... well I am pleased to report that other than my sake headache, and a massive mess in my house ... the night was a huge success!! thumbsup

We ended up with about 25 adults (and about 10 kids) - there were a few shy people who never got near the microphone, but there were enough others who wouldn't let the thing go! Some were great singers, some just thought they were! doh

Party continued until 2am when we shut it down for fear of neighbourhood lynching lol
Plenty of good food, drinks and great company. Awesome!

A huge success is always good!

Did the Japanese favorite Love Me Tender get an airing?

That it did brit-gob.
And it was actually sung by my Brother-In-Law (Papabears youngest sisters husband). He has a GREAT voice - he is Anglo-Indian, a deadset charmer with the smoothest singing voice and some seriously talented guitar skills.

The night was held to send off my 14 yr old on a Humantarian Aid pilgrimage. We did some silent auctions on the night, as well as a raffle - and from those low key efforts raised enough money to provide acconmodation, food, clothing and schooling to about 18 children rescued from child slavery (domestic and sexual slavery) for a year. It was quite a big thrill to involve a community behind the hands on efforts of my son - sorta spread the feeling of 'doing something' to others.

And had a rocking good time too boot!

I think I hate "New York, New York" more.

Sounds like a good party, hope no wasted alcohol.

Good on you, Mama.

More empathy needed in this world.

That got sung too - of course!

And yes my 16 yr old son almost strangled me when I tipped the rest of the Sake down the sink this morning. I figured it has been open since Saturday, had been heated and cooled - sat there open on the bench since then - nup...time to flush it. But my entire recycling bin is FULL of bottles (so much so I need to go dump some in my mothers bin) - so there was plenty of damage done.

I agree.
But I can't take the credit on this one.
The humantiarian is my son...he is the one who volunteered to do this ... he is the one who will be holding the hands of the dying, and bringing smiles to abandonded kids faces. He is 14 years old and today he is my hero.

I was persuaded into going to karaoke last night after an enkai. I actually had a good time, surprised even myself. Surprised at how many modern songs were on there as well. I sang a recent Coldplay song (very badly, but everyone was drunk).

Still nursing my head this afternoon.

Good on you Big Will! I reckon it is important for Karaoke success to have a good mix of new songs and very very old songs.

Hope the head improves!

I hate karaoke boxes but thankfully there are alternatives! I regularly go to a karaoke bar in Kutchan where I can have an audience and just let rip. I love singing and do so just about everywhere (my work colleagues do occasionally ask me to shut up). Karaoke for me is just a great night out with friends. We take full advantage of the Y3,000 nomi hodai (all night) and there has been many a night where we haven't stopped singing until well after the sun has come up. We do have friends come along who don't sing but just drink and enjoy the fun.

nomi hodai kicks ass. A local izekaya has nomi hodai for 1000 yen every Tuesday, it opens at 5pm and closes at 3am and you can sit there from open to close drinking all for 1000yen!! Quality!! Not good if you work on Wednesday though!!
