....You may not even notice any difference (hopefully you will), but we have just completed a major move to a new home and a lot has changed behind the scenes here.

What does it all mean?

Well, as SnowJapan and the Forums continue to grow each season, more people use the site, more people use it at the same time and do things that take up more server resources and bandwidth - like upload/view photos etc. So with this growth each season the demands on our server resources increase and we need more powerful and capable server specs to cope with the increased demands of readership.

Our new very stable home gives us a considerably more powerful brain, much increased memory, a large chunk of quality bandwidth, a lot more space and also increased security and maintenance/backup support.

With the considerable scale of upgrade we have just undertaken, we should be set to more than cope with increased traffic and users over the next few years and the experience of using the site should be trouble-free and fast.

This move has been a demanding process but it was becoming necessary before we add more bandwidth-intensive functionality (some of which we have been testing on the new machine) and the heavy traffic of next winter. We certainly think that it will be worth it.
