I was after something a little deeper. Then this is the wrong place to ask - try something like nutritionistsanonymous.com. GN has got it exactly roght! Flavour of meat is in the fat, trim all that off and you might as well chew on the cardboard carton it's packed in.

Is there anything more miserable than trying to lose weight? Just harking back to the original rhetorical question that began this fun filled thread.... YES there is! This week has been a series of mini-tornado's for me ... After one illness after another, and a nagging and constant pain in my lower right rib area and between my shoulder blades I finally gave up the tough guy act and went and saw the Dr. Probable gall stones she said and sent me off for an ultrasound (which takes days to get in!) Imagine my shock when instead of gall stones they found a 'mass' in my liver and immediately organised a CT scan with contrast dye (yuk - that is not a pleasant experience!). It took almost 2 days to get those results interpreted, and today my good doctor was able to inform me that it is highly likely that the tumor is benign - and while I do need to see a specialist and get an MRI to absolutely rule out malignancy (in bloody August!) she has said I can breathe easy. It certainly put my battle to lose weight into perspective! Meanwhile my feminine coping mechanisms have me massaged, manicured, eyelash tinted and morphing from a blonde to a red head - but hey - whatever gets ya through the day, right?! Savour your food - lifes too freaking short!

@ Y.O.S. you big woose! My poor Dad got a call from my Mum Thursday telling him (it took me a whole day to be brave enough to break the news to my parents) - and then about an hour later a collegue walked in late - he had been at a funeral for his friend Michelle (my name too) who was in her early 40's, who had been diagnosed with a Liver Tumour in January. Dad almost lost the plot - poor old fella did not sleep well on Thursday night. Dad and I are very close. Well, look on the bright side Mama. By getting the tumor out you will lose a little weight. I WISH!!! Because of my bleeding disorder they are not even going to biopsy it unless the MRI in August is suspicious. And as for the pain & discomfort that accompanies it - doc reckons I have to learn to live with it!! So I have made a few changes in my life. Crises have a way of facilitating change dont they? I quit my job. I am searching out a naturopath. And I am devoting my newly found free time half to my family and half to a focus on my health and fitness - so the weight will go - as from now on I am putting myself FIRST! I now have 6 days to get my snowboarding gear organised, tuned and packed and I am off to revel in some fantastic Australian snow. It is indeed a good day

Mamabear healing thoughts are being sent your way I sat here crying as I read your thread - As we get older we here these sort of things more and more often. A friend of ours had a sore on his chest that wouldn't heal and he used to just say I must be run down, I'm feeling tired all the time etc. Anyway in January he finally went to the Doctor and 4 weeks later we lost him. No bad news for you though MB it is benign which is AWESOME BUT it makes me more and more aware live every day as if it is the last. ENJOY THE SUNRISE - ENJOY THE SUNSET - LOVE YOUR LIFE AS IF TOMORROW WILL BE YOUR LAST
