I'd really like to see these guys if we end up going to the Shiga Kogen area. They look really cool. Great selection of photos there sj.

I can vouch for that, he is clogging up mail with his links to that. They are very popular though.

There was an excellent little cake/coffee shop at the start of the walking track. Nice spot to come back to after a beautiful stroll through the forest.

Didn't notice that.
Aren't there 2 paths leading up to it - one nearer the main road going up to SK and the other one a little further in?

I'm not sure about the paths. We caught a bus from the train station that dropped us off and pointed us up the hill. It was 1-2 km easy walk along a forest path to the monkeys.

Nice photos sam, I want to go there this time we're in Japan - looks really cool. I want to go when it's snowing and there's some snow sprinkled on the tops of those monkey heads.

Has anyone travelled to these critters from Shiga Kogen, everything I read has you coming from Nagano, but I thought there was a bus from Shiga Kogen? Any info anyone has would be great....

I think they always hang in the same area - suppose they might want to be taking more onsen in winter than summer though maybe. They are always there though apparently.
You can get as close as you want - and that means very close. Well take a look at the photos on there, take a camera and you can take photos like that.
