Good morning.

That nasty typhoon has passed and now we can hopefully start to look forward to enjoying some proper autumn-like weather.

It’s now less than 3 months until the first ski lifts start moving at a few early opening (natural snow) ski resorts in Japan. That’s both exciting and scary – because there’s so much to do before then!

SnowJapan of course brings you information on every ski hill throughout Japan – all 500 or so of them. That’s a lot of information. We check and update that information every season and over the next few months we will be working on that.

Ideally, we would already have it all updated. Unfortunately, most of the official information doesn’t become confirmed/available until the autumn months. Unbelievably, some ski hills don’t release info until November or in some cases even December! (Mad, we think). And some drip-feed info over a period making our updates complicated.

So over the next three months we will gradually be checking and updating the information for every ski resort around Japan. We will do our best to concentrate on updating information for major ski resorts earlier in the process, though it doesn’t always work like that. It may seem rather random – and that’s because it basically is; it is a manual process.

Basically, we’re just asking for a bit of patience.

How can you tell if we have updated a particular ski resort? Well, if you see 2018-2019 season planned opening dates at the top, rather than dates for 2017-2018, it means that the page has been updated.

We’re making a few other adjustments to the site at the moment. Some of you may have noticed that some maps have disappeared; this is due to changes made by Google that require some changes on our side and we are currently dealing with that.

Our popular “Now” daily reporting will be back as the season approaches and of course every day during the season. Look out for some signs of life in that section come November.

There’s a few other things that we’ll talk about at a later date.

Once again, we promise to bring you independent and honest information direct from Japan. We’ll filter out the increasing amount of ‘noise’ and ever-louder marketing messages that are out there. We’ll resist pressure from certain businesses to not be as honest as we are. And we’ll try not to show our annoyance with that kind of stuff – we promise to try and keep it to ourselves! :)

If you would like to help us, please spread the word! Thanks.

Update for early October:

We are continuing to update ski resort information throughout the site but it is still early stages... it takes time, especially when much official info is not yet available. (More will become so during this month).

As we have mentioned previously, in most cases there are not many major changes in ski resort information from one season to the next --- so info from the 17-18 season will often be a good indicator of the upcoming season.

We also want all info to be updated.... RIGHT NOW! But, we just need to be patient.

Please enjoy the autumn months as we gradually continue this long process!

:)
